Kotsopoulos J, Librach CL, Lubinski J (2008) Infertility, treatment of infertility, and the risk of breast cancer among women with BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations: a case-control study. Cancer Causes Control 19: 1111-9 Women with a breast cancer susceptibility gene 1 (BRCA1) or breast cancer susceptibility gene 2 (BRCA2) mutation are at increased risk for developing breast and ovarian cancer. Various reproductive and hormonal factors have been shown to modify the risk of breast cancer. Th ese studies suggest that estrogen exposure and deprivation are important in the etiology of hereditary cancer. Many patients are interested in the possibility of an adverse eff ect of fertility treatment on breast cancer risk. It is important to evaluate whether or not infertility per se or exposure to fertility medications increase the risk of breast cancer in genetically predisposed women. We conducted a matched case-control study of 1,380 pairs of women with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation to determine if a history of infertility, the use of fertility medications, or undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) were associated with and increased the risk of breast cancer. Sixteen percent of the study subjects reported having experienced a fertility problem and 4% had used a fertility medication. Women who had used a fertility medication were not at signifi cantly increased risk of breast cancer (odds ratio [OR] = 1.21; 95% confi dence interval [CI] = 0.81-1.82) compared to non-users. Furthermore, there was no risk associated with a history of use of a fertility medication when the subjects were stratifi ed by parity: (OR = 1.29; 95%

Despite the recovery in the world economy in 2003 and 2004, unemployment remained high in many industrial countries. Even in those countries which reported a strong recovery, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, employment levels recovered only moderately, leading many observers to wonder about a “jobless recovery”. Although employment growth typically lags behind in each cyclical ...
متن کاملIs the RET proto-oncogene involved in the pathogenesis of intestinal neuronal dysplasia type B?
Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) is defined by the absence of intramural ganglia of Meissner and Auerbach along variable lengths of the gastrointestinal tract. Intestinal neuronal dysplasia (IND) type B is characterized by the malformation of the parasympathetic submucous plexus of the gut. A connection appears to exist between these two enteric nervous system abnormalities. Due to the major role pl...

WTO dispute settlement continues to be the subject of extensive scrutiny by both trade practitioners and academics. Not surprisingly, most of this analysis is legal in nature, touching upon the various arguments that have been put forward by parties to disputes and the legal foundations upon which these disputes are adjudicated. While legal and procedural issues remain the domain of trade lawye...
متن کاملOn Isomorphisms of Certain Functors for Cherednik Algebras
Bezrukavnikov and Etingof introduced some functors between the categories O for rational Cherednik algebras. Namely, they defined two induction functors Indb, indλ and two restriction functors Resb, resλ. They conjectured that one has functor isomorphisms Indb ∼= indλ,Resb ∼= resλ. The goal of this paper is to prove this conjecture.
